Share and Voice: Erin Brockovich

So I went searching for some environment related movies to share about, and one of my favorite movies popped up: Erin Brockovich.  Granted this movie is a few years old now, it is still amazing.  For those of you that have never seen it, it is basically about a woman who works her way up in a law firm and uncovered that a water system had been poisoning its residents for over thirty years.  Through courage and determination Erin was able to help these residents in ways no one ever dreamed possible.

I never even thought about this movie in an environmental way, but it definitely relates to the environment.  Erin Brockovich is a real woman in the United States.  She didn't have a law degree or anything fancy, she was just a normal person that saw an environmental issue and decided to take action.  This is something any one of us can do.  If you haven't seen this movie, I strongly encourage it.  Please feel free to ask me any questions about it as well, I have seen it many times.  Let me know what you all think.

  1. Haha, it's funny that you should mention her because almost every class period I am reminded of this movie! One of my all time favorite movies. It's very inspirational and also eye opening. It was one of the first times that a big corporation was really called out and had to face what they've been doing in a public arena in recent years.

  2. I have seen this movie too (a while ago) and I loved it. It's insane how much courage and work that it took Eric to stand up to the water corporation and demand that change needs to take place. Innocent people were dying and they weren't willing to lose money over the issue. With everything being up into our foods, corporations are pretty much doing the same thing to us... and it needs to stop.

  3. I only saw this movie once when it first came out and I was young but I remember it being about water. In essence, the movie has a great concept and shows that a voice of one person can escalate to other people.

  6. I haven't seen the movie either. I've always wanted to but never have the time anymore lol. It's fun to start pulling new lessons out of old time movies you've seen over and over again.
